9. Whatcha Wearin'?

Whatcha Wearin'? is a realistic and touching love story that will surely make you laugh! The comedy is about a relationship that forms after a sudden sex phone call. In an attempt to spice up her long-term relationship, she decides to have phone sex with her boyfriend but ends up calling a random guy. Over time, they start talking about their problems concerning their relationships but finally end up falling for each other!

First of all, be aware the content is sexually explicit. You will love how refreshing this rom-com is! Unlike many other K-dramas, it’s not about unrealistic love; on the contrary, you will see realistic conversations. You will enjoy its humor and jokes (though they are a bit more mature than in your ordinary romantic Korean movie), but it doesn’t feel like out of place.

8. 100 Days With Mr. Arrogant

At first, 100 Days With Mr. Arrogant was a popular Internet fiction. Later, a book series was released and adapted into a movie. Obviously, some scenes were added and some were taken out, but it was a big hit when it was first released.

Just after breaking up with her boyfriend, Ha Young gets herself into an accident – she accidentally kicks a can causing the damage of Lexus. The guy, the owner of this car, demands she pays him several thousand dollars on the spot! Obviously, a regular high school student can’t afford that, so she escapes. However, the guy wants her to pay the debt and makes her clean his house, run his errands and do his homework for 100 days. Soon, they will fall for each other, but the story will take some more interesting twists.

7. Penny Pinchers

Penny Pinchers will make you smile a lot! It centers on two quite unordinary people who happen to be living next door to each other in a low-rent apartment. Chun Ji Woong is a college graduate who can’t find a job and calls his mother for money (which he spends on women), while Gu Hong Sil is an extremely frugal girl: she sells collected recyclables, steals as much sugar from coffee shops as possible, and walks instead of taking a bus. Why taking a bus? Pfff, it’s a waste of money! Well, at least, Gu Hong thinks so. Depositing all her savings at the bank is her favorite hobby, though she doesn’t know what she wants to do with it. However, she needs a separate account under someone else’s name. That’s when she meets Chun Ji, who gets evicted from his apartment after his mother suddenly cuts him off. So, the girl includes him into her scheme if he follows her orders for the next two months. That’s when their roommates’ relationship begins!

6. Love 911

Love 911 is about two different people, a man, and a woman, who, despite all odds, form a strong relationship and help each other in healing their emotional wounds. He is a hot-headed firefighter completely lost in his job, who can think of nothing but his grief over his wife’s death. She is a doctor who thinks only about her career.

If you like crazy, even hilarious female leads or rude male leads, or if you are looking for drama and action, you shouldn’t miss this Korean romantic comedy! It does a great job of balancing light comedy with serious drama!

5. Windstruck

The movie starts with female police officer Kyung Jin chasing down a purse snatcher. Although she is off-duty, she decides to chase him anyway. Mistakenly, she arrests a passer-by who has nothing to do with this! Actually, he is trying to catch the criminal! The two of them are assigned to patrol an area full of underage students.

Windstruck is a prequel to My Sassy Girl (see further in this list). However, it’s better to watch My Sassy Girl before this movie or else you might not fully understand the storyline. It incorporates many different genres such as comedy. Romance, melodrama/drama and maybe even action. Overall, Windstruck is a comedy that you won’t get tired of watching over and over again!

4. Spellbound

Spellbound (also titled as My Girlfriend Can See Ghosts), is for lovers of horror romantic comedies! The story centers on Yeo Ri, a girl who sees ghosts from a very young age. Because of these strange things happening to her, strange things happen to people surrounding her. That’s why our heroine decides to isolate herself from the outside world. One day, a street magician notices her among his audiences and something draws him to her. He follows her and asks her to take part in his show. Soon, they start to develop feelings for each other.

Again, this is one more movie in the list which incorporates many genres: drama, comedy, romance, and horror! That’s why it probably won’t suit everyone’s taste as there are people who don’t like horror scenes, for example. However, if you think you are not the type of person who is scared that easy and love sweet romantic comedies, then you should check it out!

3. My Little Bride

My Little Bride is all about an arranged marriage. Basically, it follows a teenage high-school girl and a guy studying in college. One day, a girl is made to marry this guy simply because of the arrangement between their parents made during the Korean War! She doesn’t have a choice but to make this happen. The interesting thing is, it is revealed later in the story that the guy actually loves his bride!

If you like somewhat simple, someone would say even a little bit cliché stories, and just want to have fun, this Korean romantic comedy is the ticket for you!

2. 200 Pounds Beauty

200 Pounds Beauty is the only musical romantic comedy on the list! The movie adapted from the Japanese manga Kanna's Big Success! by Yumiko Suzuki. The manga tells about an overweight ghost singer who takes plastic surgery to become popular in the industry, but the movie has nothing to do with ghosts! However, it’s also about a large girl with a big heart and unbelievable voice. Because of her appearance, she can’t become as popular as the popular singer she provides the vocals for, she is just a faceless singer. As if that isn’t enough, the girl is also in love with the music producer of this pop star! But it’s kind of one-sided love. The girl gets an emotional trauma and disappears for everyone for one year. After one year, she appears as a new girl, a beautiful pop-star who is ready to take on the world!

However, don’t get mistaken and think it’s simply about the main heroine getting plastic surgery for the purpose of getting popular and getting the attention of a guy. It’s much more than that. It’s the idea of inner beauty and happiness that makes this movie special. It’s a must watch for those who need more confidence! The theme might not be something new, but it’s classic, refreshing, touching, and inspirational!

It may be hard to believe, but My Sassy Girl is based on the real-life events posted as a series of blog posts! Later, it was presented as a fictional novel. The movie became a real hit when it first was released (not only in Asia, by the way!).

This romantic comedy is a fun story that stands out among many others. The main story centers on a regular college student, a guy who thinks only about hanging out with the group of his buddies and takes interest in girls. One day he meets a drunken girl in subway. Almost unconscious, her behavior is very strange and after some funny moments, everyone assumes she is his girlfriend. The boy finds out he is in a relationship he doesn’t even know about! Very soon, he will not be able to imagine even a day spent without this sassy girl.
